The live album, ‘S&M2’ is the follow-up to the band’s 1999 live album ‘S&M’, and was recorded in San Francisco over two nights in September 2019 with the San Francisco Symphony to commemorate the 20th anniversary of ‘S&M’.

The track was impressed by Ernest Hemingway’s 1940 novel of the same identify concerning the means of loss of life in modern warfare and the bloody Spanish Civil War. Particular allusions are made to the scene described in Chapter 27 of the e-book, during which 5 soldiers are obliterated throughout an airstrike after taking a defensive place on a hill.

Metallica’s ‘S&M2’ will be released in a wide array of formats on August 28, including 4xLP vinyl, 2xCD, DVD and Blu-ray versions and a limited edition colour vinyl 4xLP + 2xCD + Blu-ray “Deluxe Box”. Pre-order is available now.
