Laura Lynch, one of the original members of the Dixie Chicks, died at the age of 65 following a car accident in Texas.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday, December 22. Another vehicle attempted to pass another on Highway 62 outside of El Paso. It resulted in colliding head-on with Lynch’s car and resulting in her immediate death, according to TMZ. The person driving the other vehicle was transported to a hospital with injuries reported as non-life-threatening. Tragically, Laura Lynch was declared dead at the scene.

The Chicks shared a video clip of Lynch performing the song “West Texas Wind” with her fellow bandmates in their tribute posted on Instagram.

“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Laura Lynch, a founding member of The Chicks. We hold a special place in our hearts for the time we spent playing music, laughing, and traveling together. Laura was a bright light…her infectious energy and humor gave a spark to the early days of our band. Laura had a gift for design, a love of all things Texas, and was instrumental in the early success of the band. Her undeniable talents helped propel us beyond busking on street corners to stages all across Texas and the mid-West.” The Chicks added, “Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this sad time.”
