Indian classical singer Sharda Sinha, a Padma Bhushan Recipient, has died at 72. On October 25, The well-known singer was admitted to AIIMS Delhi and has been under treatment at the hospital’s oncology department.

She predominantly sang in Maithili and Bhojpuri languages and is called Bihar Kokila, the cuckoo of Bihar. In 1991, she received the Padma Shri award for her contribution to music. She was awarded Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian award, on the evening of Republic Day in 2018.

Her son, in a post, said “Your prayers and love will always be with mother. Chhathi Maiya has called her to her side.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered Ms Sinha, expressing his condolences, “The echo of her melodious songs associated with the great festival of faith, Chhath, will always remain.”
