Music streaming app Spotify is seemingly starting to build out a new video player on “Now Playing” UI. The possibilities with video features, which would allow the platform to compete with YouTube Music and more.
Jane Wong shared the information on Twitter, Spotify is experimenting with a tabbed interface for its Now Playing screen. The brand new feature allows users to discover completely different visual options to their leisure — Canvas, Album Artwork, or Video.

The Canvas tab displays those short, looped videos, which many artists are already utilizing. Album Art is pretty self-explanatory, which shows the album or single art for a given release. Finally, there’s the video tab, which is likely a placeholder for official music videos and other content. It’s not a full music video, but it’s a neat little animation.
New, though, is the video tab that would show full music videos throughout the Spotify app. Spotify has built-in video content material in the past, however, because it stands at present that content is both difficult to search out or completely non-existent for many songs and albums.
In its at present enabled state, Spotify says it is “still exploring” what to do here, but the implications are obvious. Spotify is almost certainly planning to show full music videos of some sort on this section, just like YouTube Music offers.
