The lead singer and guitarist of Leeds post-punk act Delta 5, Julz Sale has died.
Her one-time label & Pitchfork confirmed the news on 22nd September(Wednesday). The Independent record label, Kill Rock Stars states that “Julz Sale’s contribution to punk, post-punk and music at large will be felt forever. we are gutted by the news of her passing.
They added, “she was a delight to know and will be missed immensely. we encourage each of you to listen to Delta 5 for the remainder of the week and/or month. RIP x”
Though the Delta 5 only released one full-length album—1981’s See the Whirl—they released several other singles, which Kill Rock Stars collected in 2006 set Singles & Sessions: 1979-1981.
The group dissolved shortly after See the Whirl’s release. “Mind Your Own Business,” released in 1979, remained one of the band’s best-known songs over later decades, appearing in TV series and an Apple ad about iPhone security that aired in 2021.
