The “Shape of You” singer, Ed Sheeran, surprises fans by singing in Punjabi on his latest song titled ‘Sapphire.’ Watch the full video below.
Bringing a rich cultural touch to the track, Indian music icon Arijit Singh lends his soulful vocals and sitar melodies to “Sapphire,” creating a unique East-meets-West collaboration. He also stars alongside Ed Sheeran in the vibrant music video, which was shot across stunning Indian locations during Sheeran’s 2025 tour. The video showcases Sheeran immersed in Indian culture — strolling through colorful markets, relaxing on scenic beaches, visiting historic landmarks, bonding with locals, and performing with young soccer players.
The vocals come up, “महरूनी, दो नैण लुभाए चांदणी चम चम चमकाए नूर दा मेनूं घूंट पिलाए जिंदड़ी बण जाए अंबरां दी तू झालर पाए बद्दळां दे लट्ठे सूट बणाए किरणां नूं रंग रूप चटाए मोरणी बण जाए” Also, in english, “Sapphire / Touching on your body while you’re pushing on me / Don’t you end the party / I could do this all week / We’ll be dancing till the morning / Go to bed we won’t sleep / Cham cham chamke sitare wargi”
“‘Sapphire’ was the first song I finished for Play that made me know where the album was heading,” wrote the “A Team” singer in a statement, referring to his September-slated LP. “It’s why I finished the recording process in Goa surrounded by some of the best musicians in India.”
“The final jigsaw piece for me was getting Arijit on the record,” he continued. “Me and I have done a full Punjabi version of the song that will come out in the next few weeks, which has a lot more of him on it. This is the album version of the song, and my favorite song on the album. Hope you guys love it.”
