American singer, and philanthropist, Michael Jackson, has officially gotten the new trailer of the upcoming biopic. Watch the full biopic below.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson portraying his uncle Michael Jackson, the upcoming biopic is scheduled to hit theaters on April 24 following a string of delays and additional reshoots. Industry reports have suggested the production faced complications tied to how it would address longstanding allegations that surfaced in the 1990s. While rumors indicate the story may conclude in the 1980s — potentially leaving room for a sequel — those claims remain unconfirmed. Based on the official synopsis, trailer, and studio messaging, the film appears primarily focused on Jackson’s childhood and early solo rise rather than his later career.
The film has the backing of Michael Jackson’s estate, which maintains control over the late singer’s rights and likeness. However, the project has drawn criticism from some observers who question how the story handles the long-running abuse allegations tied to Jackson’s legacy. In a 2023 op-ed for The Observer, Dan Reed, director of Leaving Neverland, argued that a biopic approved by the estate could present an overly sympathetic portrayal. The following year, Reed told Variety that an early draft of the screenplay, which he described as misleading, appeared to challenge the accounts of Leaving Neverland participants Wade Robson and James Safechuck.
“Jackson is only ever seen caring for children with childhood cancer, or dancing with a little girl in a wheelchair, or tucking up multiple little boys, mostly his nephews, at sleepovers,” Reed said.
The film also stars Miles Teller as Jackson’s attorney and adviser John Branca, Colman Domingo and Nia Long as his parents, Larenz Tate as Berry Gordy, and Kat Graham as Diana Ross. The first trailer arrived late last year.
