Indian composer and santoor player, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma died at the age of 84. He was suffering from kidney-related ailments for the past six months.

According to the reports, He passed away due to a cardiac arrest on May 10. Over the past two years, during the coronavirus pandemic, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma barely stepped out of his residence. Nevertheless, he was sometimes captured at events.

Pandit Shivkumar Sharma was suffering from kidney-related conditions for the past six months. He was undergoing dialysis as well. His funeral will be held today evening.

Indian PM Narendra Modi tweeted, “Our cultural world is poorer with the demise of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma Ji. He popularised the Santoor at a global level. His music will continue to enthral the coming generations. I fondly remember my interactions with him. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

Also, the Indian President tweets, “Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma’s recitals would leave connoisseurs of Indian classical music spellbound. He popularized Santoor, the traditional musical instrument from J&K. Sad to learn that his Santoor is now silenced. Condolences to his family, friends and countless fans everywhere.”
