Sacha Jenkins, an Influential Hip-Hop Journalist, filmmaker, writer, musician, and producer, died at 54.

On Friday (May 23), Jenkins passed away at his home due to complications from multiple system atrophy, his wife, journalist and filmmaker Raquel Cepeda, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sacha Jenkins was best known for his influential work chronicling hip-hop, graffiti, punk, and metal cultures. A pioneer in urban journalism and storytelling, Jenkins began his teenage career by publishing Graphic Scenes & X-Plicit Language, one of the earliest zines dedicated exclusively to graffiti art.

In 1994, he co-founded the groundbreaking Ego Trip magazine, which became a vital voice in hip-hop media. He later brought his vision to television, creating the VH1 competition reality series Ego Trip’s The (White) Rapper Show in 2007. Jenkins also served as the creative director of Mass Appeal magazine, shaping its editorial voice and visual identity. His contributions left a lasting impact on the documentation and celebration of underground and mainstream music cultures alike.
