On Monday, August 11, Taylor Swift surprised fans by updating her official website with a countdown clock set to end at 12:12 a.m. EDT on August 12. Moments after the countdown expired, Swift revealed her upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl — her 12th original studio album and the highly anticipated follow-up to 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department and its extended edition, The Anthology.
While the album is already available for pre-order through Swift’s website, the official release date has yet to be confirmed.
In a clip from the episode now posted on social media, Swift reveals a mint green briefcase with the letters “TS” in orange lettering. “I want to show you something,” Swift says. “This is my brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl.” The cover art, however, is blurred out. Watch the clip below.
This Wednesday, Taylor Swift will join New Heights, the hit podcast hosted by her boyfriend and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, alongside his brother, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce.
In May, a re-recorded version of “Look What You Made Me Do,” the lead single from Taylor Swift’s 2017 album Reputation, was featured in the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale. While fans speculated that this signaled the imminent release of Reputation (Taylor’s Version), Swift later revealed a different surprise — she had officially bought back the master recordings of her first six studio albums. These masters were initially acquired in 2019 by Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings LLC, and then sold the following year to Los Angeles-based private equity firm Shamrock Capital. Swift confirmed that the re-recording of her self-titled debut album is complete, but noted that Reputation (Taylor’s Version) may still be in progress.
Recently, Swift became the richest female musician in the world. According to the Forbes list, her net worth has been estimated at $1.6 billion.
