American singer, Taylor Swift, hits Adele’s first-week album sales record with the album, “The Life of a Showgirl“.

According to the Billboard report, Taylor Swift’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, has achieved a remarkable 3.5 million equivalent album units in the U.S., according to early figures from Luminate. Since its release on Oct. 3, the project has sold approximately 3.2 million copies through physical and digital purchases, while around 300,000 units come from streaming activity across the album’s tracks.

Luminate’s current tracking period runs from Friday, Oct. 3, through Thursday, Oct. 9. With 3.2 million albums sold so far, The Life of a Showgirl is on track to challenge the record for the biggest single-week sales in the modern era — a benchmark dating back to 1991, when Luminate first began electronic sales tracking. The current record belongs to Adele’s 25, which set the bar in 2015 with 3.378 million copies sold in its debut week.

With The Life of a Showgirl earning 3.5 million equivalent album units, Taylor Swift has officially set a new all-time record for the biggest single week for any album in the modern era. The milestone surpasses the previous benchmark set by Adele’s 25, which opened with 3.482 million units on the Dec. 12, 2015 chart — driven primarily by 3.378 million pure album sales, with the remainder coming from track downloads and streaming activity.
