Tabla Maestro, composer, percussionist, music producer, and film actor, Ustad Zakir Hussain died at 73 in San Francisco. His family confirmed.
Ustad Hussain died due to complications arising out of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, the family said in a statement. Source said, Zakir Hussain, admitted to the ICU of a San Francisco hospital for heart-related issues, remains in critical condition.

He was the eldest son of tabla player Alla Rakha and was widely considered one of the greatest tabla players of all time. Hussain was also awarded the Govt of India’s Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1990, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship, and Ratna Sadsya in 2018.
Meanwhile, also, Hussain has received seven Grammy Award nominations, with four wins. He received three Grammys in February 2024.
